Thanks to the tip from ttyymmnn I’ve been checking local news for flyover info and while we haven’t had any news on the official Blue Angels or Thunderbirds we do have a B2 bouncing around the state today.

Kinja'd!!!

It’s not going to come within 20 miles of my house but I’ll sit outside with my camera hoping to catch a glimpse.

Hold the phone, the National Guard flies the B2? I thought the regular Air Force did that?

Not a very good stealth bomber if you can see it

Operated by the 131st bomb wing of the Air National Guard, I think there’s also a tanker wing operated by the ANG too.

If you can deploy one weekend a month and two weeks a year, you too can start the apocalypse.

They turn off the cloaking device for flyovers.

That’s rad. I would say this is a can’t miss flyover.

I gotten the privilege of witnessing a B2 flyover on a couple of occasions. Such a weird weird beast. The first time I saw one in the air I thought “if I didn’t know this was friendly, I would be shitting myself”

That feeling hasn’t changed much since.

Saw one at the most recent airshow.  I was surprised at how loud it was.  I expected it to be more like commercial airliner noise.  Just felt so at odds with the whole stealth thing.

Flie s at 50,000' - maybe noise doesn’t matter?

They’re a strange thing for sure. My favorite is the B-1 though, back in the 90's when they were regular at the air show circuits I saw one doing a high speed low altitude fly-by and it was amazing.

We had some B-1's stationed in town when I was growing up. Their flyovers for stuff like the 4th of July were just awesome.

That’s probably the case. Meanwhile flyover I saw was really low. I think the T hunderbirds had to cancel because the cloud ceiling was around 800 ft.

You do realize the ANG is a full-time force augmented with drill status guardsmen, right?
